NXT 4/13/10

NXT opens with a replay of the Keg competition from last week. The NXT rookies come out for tonight’s competition. Striker asks Tarver if he’s feeling the pressure and Tarver says he is the pressure. Striker addresses Otunga’s taking on Cena at RAW and Otunga says that all that really matters is he shared the spotlight with Cena. Gabriel says he doesn’t know how he’d do against Cena, but if they gave him a match they would see.

This competition is meant to get the rookies to impress the audience and the winner will get their very own entrance theme. Daniel Bryan’s topic is “passion” and he discusses it in relation to the Daniel Bryan Manliness Meter and ends by saying “I love England!” Wade Barrett’s topic is “blasé” and he talks about how there is nothing blasé about him and he’s proved it. Justin Gabriel’s topic is “flowers.” He talks about the flowers in South Africa and tries to appeal to the crowd by saying he likes the rose which is an English flower. Heath Slater’s topic is “cereal” and he starts listing types of cereal and milks. David Otunga’s topic is “sleep.” Otunga’s focus is less on sleep and more on himself. Skip Sheffield’s topic is “rainbows.” Skip goes completely off topic and gets the audience to say “Yip! Yip! Yip!” Michael Tarver’s topic is “itchy” and Tarver stands there and decides not to answer. Darren Young’s topic is “toothpaste” and he comments on how toothpaste is something a lot of people there don’t use. He says he’d rather not be there in England. Tarver grabs the mic and says that if he had something to say to the audience he would say it. They go down the line and the crowd cheers loudest for Skip Sheffield and Wade Barrett. Striker says they will have a “Talk-off” to determine the winner. Skip’s topic is “bubblegum” and he begins to talk about types of bubblegum. Then he says he should’ve won the contest last week and he doesn’t chew bubblegum. Barrett’s topic is “wind” and he talks about the winds of change in the WWE. Barrett proclaims that he will be the first ever English WWE Heavyweight champion. This time, Barrett gets a decisive victory among the audience members.

Darren Young is backstage with the Straight Edge Society. He apologizes to Punk and says he wasn’t ready to join the Society. Punk says if it wasn’t for Mysterio, they would’ve shaved him anyway. Punk says it took guts to fight back and he asks Luke Gallows if he believes he can beat Darren. Punk says that if Darren beats Luke, his transgression will be forgiven, but if Luke wins, they’ll shave Darren’s head.

Wade Barrett is competing against Christian. They start feeling each other out and Barrett is shot off, but answers with a shoulder block. A dropkick from Christian takes Barrett down, and when he tries to shoot Christian off, Christian manages to keep the side headlock locked in. A back suplex puts Barrett back in control and he hits Christian with a unique slingshot backbreaker move. Barrett continues the attack on Christian. Barrett chokes Christian on the ropes, but when he tries to run at Christian, Christian pulls down sending Barrett over the top. Christian hits his springboard attack from the corner to the outside. Barrett counters an attack with a backbreaker and covers for 2. Another backbreaker and another 2 count for Barrett. Christian begins to fight back with a series of shots and an inverted DDT on Barrett. Christian stands on Barrett’s back to choke him, then goes to the outside and nails him with a punch. Christian goes up top and gets the crossbody for 2. Christian goes for a second crossbody, but Barrett ducks and nails Christian with a big boot. Barrett sets up Christian in the corner and drives his shoulder into the lower back. Barrett charges Christian in the corner, but gets caught with the slingshot kick followed by the diving flying elbow. Jericho distracts the ref and Barrett tries to go for his finisher, but Slater grabs Barrett’s foot allowing Christian to fight out. Christian hits the Killswitch and gets the 3 count to win the match.

Move of the Match: Lots of good and unique moves from Barrett, but I gotta give this to the Killswitch for the win.

They play a promo showing Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga on Access Hollywood.

The Miz is in the back berating Daniel Bryan for his “I love England” comment. He compares Daniel Bryan to Susan Boyle and says that the only reason they named Daniel Bryan number 1 is because Miz is his mentor.

Daniel Bryan vs. William Regal. Bryan takes control with a dropkick and forearm shot in the corner. Dragon suplex and Bryan covers for 2. 2 European uppercuts followed by a series of kicks in the corner. The ref backs Bryan off and Regal finally gets some offense with a shot to Bryan as Bryan comes after him again. European uppercuts from Regal and Bryan counters by locking in the Guillotine Choke. Regal counters with a suplex, and then hits his Knee Trembler. 3 count from Regal to win the match.

Move of the Match: Honestly, I’m going to give this to the Dragon Suplex that Bryan hit early on. The Guillotine and Regal’s counter were both impressive, but I still liked the Dragon Suplex a little bit better.

After the match, Miz attacks Regal and sends him out of the ring, then picks up Bryan and nails him with the Skull Crushing Finale.

Darren Young in the main event is taking on Luke Gallows. This is a forgiveness vs. hair match. If Young wins, Punk forgives him for refusing to join the SES. Gallows goes after Young with a series of shots, and following a headbutt, shoots him off. Mongolian chop type move drops Young to the mat. Young begins to fight back, but is knocked back down with an uppercut. Kicks in the corner by Gallows and he whips Young across the ring. Young avoids Gallows in the other corner, but when he goes after Gallows, he gets hung up on the ropes. More kicks and a fall away slam from Gallows. Gallows hits a knee and a clothesline for a 2 count. Gallows picks up Young and tries to move him up to his shoulders, but Young counters and rolls Gallows up for 3.

Move of the Match: Not to many moves. Basically domination with punches and kicks from Gallows. Still, if I had to call it, I think I’d give it to the fall away slam.

Punk enters the ring and approaches Young. He and Young have a stare down, and Punk raises Young’s hand. Punk and Serena exit followed by Young, leaving Gallows in the ring alone to end NXT.
