NXT 8/3/10

NXT opens with the Rookies coming out to the ring. Matt Striker tells the Rookies that tonight they will compete in a kissing contest. Michelle McCool and Layla will host this contest. They say that they want to see a softer, sweeter side of the rookies. They say the winner will be decided based on length, softness and passion of the kiss. They tell Husky he’s first, but before he goes to kiss them, McCool reveals they brought in a local expert kisser to judge, Laredo’s own 1993 Homecoming Queen, Margarite aka Margarita. Margarita is a large woman with a unibrow who has something on her lips. Husky gives her a kiss and then keeps wiping his mouth. Michael McGillicutty is second. McGillicutty licks her face. Lucky Cannon gives her a gentle kiss on the lips that blows Margarita away. Percy Watson is very hesitant and McCool has to push him to kiss her. Kaval is next and Team LayCool doesn’t want him to have to kiss her. Layla gives Kaval a kiss, but McCool says that doesn’t count. Kaval gives her a quick kiss and backs away. Alex Riley is last and he gives her a long kiss after which her collapses to the mat. Margarita chooses Lucky Cannon as the best kisser. LayCool tells the rookies that they have all won tonsillitis, gingivitis, halitosis, athlete’s foot and cooties.

Tonight’s first match is a rematch from last week with Husky Harris facing Kaval. Harris backs Kaval into the corner, but Kaval fights out and hits a kick. Harris gets a rear waist lock, but Kaval fights out and nails Harris with a kick to the head. He follows with a spinning back kick and a kick to Harris’s chest. Kaval charges at Harris and Harris looks for a back body drop type move, but Kaval counters and hits a kick to Harris. Kaval springs out onto Harris on the outside, but Harris catches him and slams him into the barricade. Kaval gets back into the ring and Harris covers for 2. Harris goes after Kaval and locks in a modified camel clutch with his knee in Kaval’s back. Harris sends Kaval into the corner, but Kaval fights back with a kick. Harris runs into the corner and Kaval hits a series of strikes. Harris tries to catapult Kaval into the corner, but Kaval lands on the middle ropes and jumps back for a double stomp on Harris. Kaval covers, but doesn’t even get 1. Kaval goes for the Tidal Krush, but Harris moves and hits an ura-nage (a true ura-nage with the 180 turn, not like Ezekiel Jackson’s sideslam that was incorrectly referred to as an ura-nage.) Husky follows up with his big back splash and covers for the 3 count.

Move of the Match: I have to give this to Harris’ ura-nage. The move was amazingly vicious.

In the back, Ashley Valence asks Michael McGillicutty what it was about Miz’s comments that made him so mad. McGillicutty says Miz knows nothing about him and he says he’s going to challenge Miz. Lucky Cannon comes in and says he has his own issue with Miz and he’ll get his shot tonight. Miz interrupts them and says they should fight each other and the winner might be able to take him. Kofi suggests Michael McGillicutty faces Lucky Cannon and the winner goes on to face Miz tonight.

Lucky Cannon vs. Michael McGillicutty is next. Lucky works on McGillicutty’s arm and hits a fireman’s carry takedown. He continues to work on the arm. McGillicutty hits a low dropkick to a kneeling Lucky and hits his finisher (which is apparently now being called the McGillicutter) to pick up a quick win over Lucky Cannon.

Move of the Match: This has to go to McGillicutty’s McGillicutter.

Matt Striker asks the pros to tell which pro is doing the worst job on NXT.
Kofi says he’d be tempted to say the Miz, but he has to go with LayCool because Kaval is the closest thing to a legitimate Ninja and LayCool has him wearing pink.
Mark Henry says it’s got to be Zack Ryder because he had the first elimination.
Cody Rhodes says Kofi.
Zack Ryder is about to answer, but Miz comes out and says they’re all the worst pros.

Alex Riley vs. Percy Watson is next. Riley gains control early, but gets caught with a flying elbow strike from Watson. Watson works on Riley’s arm. Watson floats over in the corner and hits a sunset flip for 2. Watson hits punches in the corner, but Riley comes back with an inverted atomic drop and then sends Watson into the middle turnbuckle. Riley picks Watson up and hits the TKO for the 3 count.

Move of the Match: This has to go to the TKO.

Miz vs. Michael McGillicutty is next. Miz backs McGillicutty into the corner. He backs off and McGillicutty hits a big takedown. They do some mat wrestling until Miz hits him with a big back elbow. McGillicutty comes back and rolls Miz up for 2. Miz fights back and hits a big knee lift on McGillicutty. Miz hangs McGillicutty on the ropes and has to be backed off by the referee. He drives a leg into McGillicutty’s back, but after taunting, gets rolled up for 2. Miz hits McGillicutty with a clothesline and then dropkicks McGillicutty out of the ring. McGillicutty fights back on the outside and send Miz into the ring apron, but Miz comes back with a kick to McGillicutty’s head. Back in the ring, Miz covers for 2 and locks in a reverse chin lock. McGillicutty starts to fight back and hits a series of blows to Miz. Miz fights back, but gets caught with a big clothesline. McGillicutty hits a big belly to belly slam, but Miz avoids a low dropkick. Miz hits a big boot to a seated McGillicutty and drops him with the Skull Crushing Finale.

Move of the Match: There were a number of impressive moves, but this has to go to the Skull Crushing Finale.

She says there isn’t a diva on the roster that is comparable to her. Melina’s music hits and the other divas prevent Alicia from leaving the ring. She tries to slide out, but Jillian sends her back in. Alicia goes for a clothesline, but Melina uses her Matrix counter and slams Alicia to the mat.
