SmackDown 7/2/10

SmackDown opens with Jack Swagger coming out to the ring. Swagger says that he wants to make people suffer. They replay the video of Swagger locking in an Ankle Lock on Show and refusing to relinquish it. Swagger says he was cheated out of his title in a Fatal Four Way Match because there were no rules to protect him. Big Show comes out. Show makes fun of Swagger and offers to call him a “Waambulance.” He says that Swagger started something he should’ve finished. He says Swagger hurt him, but Swagger didn’t finish the job. Show challenges Swagger to try to put the Ankle Lock on him again. Show says that Swagger lives in a fantasy world and while Swagger may think he can break Show’s Ankle, Show knows he can break Swagger’s jaw. Show starts down to the ring, but Cody Rhodes comes in and clips him from behind with a chop block. Swagger and Rhodes double team Show with the focus on his ankle. Show starts to fight back by overpowering Swagger and Rhodes. Mysterio hits the ring and takes Swagger down with a seated senton. He uses a head scissors takedown to send Rhodes out of the ring and Swagger rolls out the other side. Show and Mysterio stand tall in the ring while Swagger and Rhodes back up the ramp.

They announce those competitors that have been named for the SmackDown Money in the Bank Match. Those competitors are Kane, Matt Hardy, “Dashing” Cody Rhodes, Christian, Kofi Kingston and the Big Show. That means there are still 2 spots open.

Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler is the first match tonight. Dolph gets a takedown early. He and Kofi trade nearfalls. Kofi hits Dolph with a standing Monkey Flip. Dolph shoots Kofi off and Kofi goes for Trouble in Paradise, but Dolph sees it coming and rolls out of the ring. Back from break, Dolph is in control of Kofi with a modified chin lock. Dolph continues the attack on Kofi and covers for a quick 1 count. Dolph hits Kofi with a running neck snap. Dollph takes Kofi down again and hits a jumping elbow drop for 2. Dolph continues the attack and sends Kofi into the corner. Kofi uses a pendulum kick variation to take Dolph down. He goes up top and hits the crossbody for 2. Kofi hits a pair of double chops and a dropkick. He hits the jumping clothesline and nails Dolph with the Boom Drop. Dolph dodges Trouble in Paradise and hits Kofi with a leg drop bulldog for a 2 count. Dolph is mad that he only got 2 and Kofi takes advantage of Dolph’s showing his anger to recover and nails Dolph with Trouble in Paradise for a 3 count.

Move of the Match: There were a handful of good moves, but I really think this should go to the leg drop bulldog because that move looked impressive and vicious.

After the match, Vickie Guerrero leaves Ziggler in the ring and walks to the back on her own.

CM Punk is in the back with his arm in a sling. Punk says he has the situation under control. Serena says the situation is not under control. Punk asks her if she trusts him. She says she does and he says to let them take care of it.

Up next is the Peep Show. The ring has 3 ladders in it with 2 others at ringside. Matt Hardy is sitting in the guest’s seat. Christian asks Hardy about McIntyre being deported and Hardy says “It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.” Christian says it was good to see Hardy in the ring with McIntyre without him being dropped on his head. Hardy says that despite everything that has happened to him, he’s kept coming back. Christian says Hardy will not win the MITB Match. Christian says no one deserves to win it more than him or Matt Hardy. Christian says he will win it. Hardy and Christian begin to climb the ladder as Hardy points out how similar their careers have been. He says that whoever wins the match will have the opportunity to reap a great reward. Christian says they’re both confident and that’s a good thing. Christian points out that neither of them has ever been the “Chosen One” like Drew McIntyre. Christian says this is his time and he is going to win Money in the Bank. Hardy says that he hopes that in the MITB Match it comes down to the two who deserve it more than anyone else, him and Christian. They both say they’re going to win the match. Christian goes to leave, but suddenly turns around toward Hardy. Hardy nails Christian with a right hand and throws him into a ladder. Hardy leaves the ring with Christian down.

They play a promo for Alberto del Rio.

Cody Rhodes is in the back. He looks around to see if anyone is watching. He doesn’t see anyone and he interviews himself. Cody keeps repeating the word “dashing” throughout his fictional interview.

Kane is out next for his match with Luke Gallows. Kane takes the attack to Gallows to start the match. He backs Gallows into the corner and hits a series of blows. Kane chokes Gallows on the ropes. He sends Gallows into the corner and hits a clothesline. Gallows starts to fight back and hits a series of strikes to Kane. He hits a big clothesline and repeatedly kicks Kane in the back. Gallows goes for a splash in the corner, but Kane catches him by the throat. The masked SES member hits the ring and attacks Kane from behind causing the disqualification.

Move of the Match: With the lack of moves before the DQ, I honestly have to give this to Gallows’ vicious clothesline.

After the match, Kane chokeslams the masked man and Gallows. Punk comes into the ring and Kane is after him, but Serena runs out. Serena says she can prove Punk is innocent. She gets into the ring and says that on the day everything happened, Punk was saving her. She shows a video of herself drinking in a bar that ends with the SES confronting her. Kane lets Punk go and leaves the ring. Serena runs to Punk, but he wants nothing to do with her and leaves.

Up next is MVP taking on Chavo Guerrero. Chavo says he hopes his Aunt Vickie is watching because he can get the job done and he will. Chavo gets control early, but MVP fights back with a series of strikes. Chavo hits a rolling kick for a quick 1 count. Chavo stomps on MVP and covers again, but still only gets 2. Chavo hits the 3 Amigos and goes up top, but MVP avoids the attack. He counters Chavo with a belly to belly throw and hits a series of strikes. MVP hits his knee facebuster and drops the Ballin’ Elbow on Chavo. MVP drops Chavo with the Play of the Day and gets the win.

Move of the Match: I like the Play of the Day and it looked even more impressive than usual in this match, but I want to give this to the 3 Amigos from Chavo because it was great to see him successfully hit all 3.

The next match is Michelle McCool vs. Kelly Kelly. McCool takes a cheap shot at Tiffany on the outside and slams her into the ring barrier. The referee starts the match and McCool slides out of the ring. She gets back into the ring at 4 and Kelly immediately attacks her. McCool fights back with a kick and nails Kelly with a series of strikes. McCool hits knees to Kelly and sends her into the corner. McCool hits kicks in the corner and follows up by choking Kelly with her boot. The referee backs McCool off and Layla comes up and sprays hair spray all over Kelly. Tiffany is back up and she nails Layla with a clothesline on the outside. McCool kicks Tiffany, but Kelly takes advantage to roll up McCool for the 3 count.

Move of the Match: There weren’t that many moves, but I’m going to give this to the big kick McCool hit early on to gain control for a while.

They play another promo for Alberto del Rio.

Mysterio comes out to the ring. He says it feels great to be the World Heavyweight Champion. He says he is ready for whatever obstacles may come. He says that while he’s Champion, his opponents won’t be competing just against him, but against the entire 619.

Mysterio and Big Show vs. Jack Swagger and “Dashing” Cody Rhodes is next. Rhodes gets control early, but Mysterio fights him off. Mysterio tags in Show who nails Rhodes with a punch and a pair of big slaps. He whips Rhodes into Swagger and then tosses Rhodes out on top of Swagger. Back from break, Mysterio and Rhodes are in the ring. Mysterio looks for a moonsault attack, but Rhodes hangs him up. Rhodes goes for a super back suplex, but Mysterio knocks him off and hits a seated senton when Rhodes gets back up. Swagger makes the blind tag and Mysterio sets up Rhodes for the 619, but runs into a boot from Swagger. Swagger hits shoulder blocks on Mysterio in the corner. Swagger tosses Mysterio across the ring. He backs Mysterio into the corner and tags in Rhodes. Rhodes takes down Mysterio and hits a knee drop. Rhodes locks in a surfboard stretch on Mysterio. Mysterio fights back with kicks. Rhodes comes back and hits his springboard roundhouse kick for a 2 count. Rhodes tags in Swagger and hits a scoop slam. Swagger hits his slingshot corner splash and locks in a body scissors. Mysterio fights back and goes for a springboard moonsault attack, but Swagger catches him. Swagger looks like he’s about to go for a powerbomb, but Mysterio swings out and hits a DDT on Swagger. Mysterio tags in Show who takes down Swagger with a pair of clotheslines. Show sets up Swagger in the corner and hits his hip attack in the corner. He drops Swagger with a shoulder block and signals for the chokeslam. Swagger tries to counter the chokeslam into the Ankle Lock again, but Show counters and hits a wheelbarrow suplex. Show tags Mysterio back in and Mysterio hits a springboard leg drop on Swagger. Rhodes breaks up the 3 count and dropkicks Show off the apron. Mysterio sets Swagger up for the 619, but Swagger catches him and locks in the Ankle Lock. The referee counts to 5 and Swagger once again refuses to release the hold.

Move of the Match: I really want to give this to Show’s Wheelbarrow Suplex as a counter to Swagger’s attack.

After the match, Show goes after Swagger, but Swagger drags Mysterio out of the ring while maintaining the hold. He finally breaks the hold and leaves.
