NXT 7/20/10

NXT opens with video of Matt Striker running the NXT obstacle course earlier in the day. They have to run tires, jump over 3 hurdles each one taller than the last, do 10 pushups, walk a balance beam and push an equipment box up the ramp. Striker completes the obstacle course in 41.5 seconds.

MVP is hosting the VIP Lounge tonight and his guest is “Showtime” Percy Watson. MVP says what Watson attempted to do last week didn’t take courage, guts or spirit, but it did take initiative. He says it was exactly the kind of thing he would’ve done when he first debuted on SmackDown. Watson says he respects MVP and he feels he went about things the wrong way. MVP says that it’s water under the bridge. Striker comes out and says that next week there will be an elimination. He asks why Percy Watson should be ranked number 1 next week. MVP says Percy Watson is the full package. Watson says he’s a “heavy hitter, a go getter” and he is not a quitter. Cody Rhodes and Husky Harris come out. Rhodes says that Husky Harris is a good representative of the WWE Universe. Rhodes calls Harris an Army Tank with a Ferrari Engine. Harris says he is real and MVP says, “Real fat.” Striker announces they’ll be in action next on NXT.

They play a promo for Lucky Cannon

Cody Rhodes and Husky Harris vs. MVP and “Showtime” Percy Watson is next. Watson and Harris start out. Harris overpowers Watson and throws Watson’s glasses out of the ring. Watson hits a shoulder block and an arm drag. He controls Harris’ arms and tags in MVP. MVP goes after Harris and Harris tries to fight back by sending MVP into the corner, but MVP floats over and hits a flying clothesline for a 1 count. MVP tag Watson back in and Watson takes down Harris and covers for 1. Watson gets a unique arm hold, but Harris fights out and tags in Rhodes. Rhodes backs Watson into the corner. Watson floats over in the other corner and hits Rhodes with an arm drag. Rhodes gets back to his corner to tag Harris back in. Harris hits a couple of strikes, but runs into a dropkick from Watson. Harris rolls to the outside, but Watson follows. They fight on the outside and the Pros have to pull them apart. Rhodes gets in MVP’s face and MVP slaps him. Back from break Rhodes and Watson are in the ring. Rhodes gets Watson down and stomps on him in the corner. The referee backs Rhodes off and Watson fights back. Watson hits a scoop slam, but Rhodes fights out of the corner with a forearm shot. Rhodes hits his front suplex and brings him to his corner. He tags in Harris who hits a running splash in the corner for 2. Harris locks in a rear waist lock. Watson fights back, but Harris hits him with a short arm clothesline. Harris hits a scoop slam and a running elbow drop, but Watson kicks him off. MVP and Rhodes are both tagged in. MVP hits a back body drop and a series of shots to Rhodes. He hits his knee facebuster and knocks Harris off the apron. MVP hits the Ballin’ Elbow and kicks Harris out of the ring. Rhodes fights back and hits his spring kick out of the corner. He tags in Harris who hits his back splash for the 3 count.

Move of the Match: I have to give this to Harris’ back splash. Rhodes did most of the work in the match, but Harris’ back splash was impressive.

They play a promo on Michael McGillicutty.

Lucky Cannon vs. Alex Riley is up next. Before the match, Striker gives Cannon 60 seconds to tell the universe why he should be number 1 next week. Cannon says he’s not going to try to convince anyone he’s the best because that’s a matter of opinion. He says he’s been living the dream and doesn’t want it to end, but whether or not it ends, he wants to say thank you to the WWE Universe. Alex Riley says the competition isn’t about his relationship with the Universe. He says that if the WWE Universe cares, they should do the right thing and vote for Alex Riley. Miz says the WWE Universe has no idea what they want. He says they should vote for Alex Riley because the future WWE Champion told them to.

Alex Riley starts the match with a kick to Cannon. He shoots Cannon off into the corner, but Cannon fights back. Cannon escapes a back suplex and hits a series of clotheslines. He hits a big boot to Riley. Cannon goes up top and goes for a diving cross body, but Riley moves out of the way. Riley picks up Cannon and hits his TKO for the 3 count and the win.

Move of the Match: This was a short match and because of that, this has to go to the TKO.

After the match Miz acts like he’s going to hit Lucky with the MITB Briefcase. Miz and Riley leave the ring, but Miz suddenly goes back in and hits Lucky with the briefcase. He picks him up and drops him on the briefcase with the Skull Crushing Finale.

Morrison says people want to watch Eli Cottonwood. Eli asks Striker who he’s going to vote for. Eli intimidates Striker into saying he’ll vote for him. Eli says no one on NXT is as intimidating as him. LayCool says that Kaval has the passion, heart, skills and smarts to win. Kaval says he has the confidence and abilities to go toe to toe with the greats in the WWE.

It’s time for the Obstacle Course Challenge. The winner of the Obstacle Course gains immunity from elimination next week. Striker says McGillicutty will go first, but first he wants to know why McGillicutty should be the next breakout star. Kofi says there is no one in the competition as hungry as McGillicutty. McGillicutty says he is the most talented rookie and points out that he has a perfect record. Striker notes that if you fail any part of the course, you must go back to properly complete the obstacle.
McGillicutty goes first and completes it in 26.7 seconds.
Alex Riley is next. Riley does pretty well, but has to do the balance beam twice and finishes in 40.3 seconds. Riley goes back and yells at one of the referees. The referee tells him to get back to the stage.
Eli Cottonwood is next. Eli falls after the 3rd hurdle and is out of the box for half of his pushups. He keeps going even though the referees tell him he needs to go back to redo the pushups. Cottonwood completes the course in 37.2 seconds, but is disqualified for not properly completing the course.
Lucky Cannon does pretty well, but still only completes it in 28.2 seconds.
Kaval is out next. Kaval does very well on the early part, but the equipment case slows him down and he takes 29.1 seconds.
“Showtime” Percy Watson is out next. He is slow on the pushups and it takes him 31.5 seconds to complete the course.
Husky Harris is out last. Harris knocks over the last hurdle instead of jumping it and takes a while on the pushups. Harris takes 50.3 seconds and takes the most time to complete it.
Michael McGillicutty has immunity from elimination.
