NXT 7/6/10

The Rookies come out to the ring to start NXT. Striker asks some of the rookies about their rankings from last week. He then introduces tonight’s challenge, the Talk the Talk Challenge. This will be very similar to last seasons, except this season they have 10 seconds to think about their topic and 30 seconds to think. The winner of this challenge will get to host their own talk show next week.
Percy Watson’s topic is “glasses.” Watson says he wants to talk about his glasses. He says he wears them because he feels you have to have a vision to know where you’re going.
Kaval’s topic is “chicken.” He says chicken is something you cannot be in the WWE. He says that while he’s the smallest competitor, he has a big heart and he is not a chicken.
Eli Cottonwood’s topic is “mustache.” Cottonwood says a mustache is for a real man. He says that while he doesn’t have a full mustache, he has the best mustache of the rookies there. He also says that by next week he could have a full mustache to prove he is a real man.
Michael McGillicutty’s topic is “breath.” He talks about being a third generation superstar. He says that by the end of NXT he’ll “take your breath away.”
Husky Harris’ topic is “doorknob.” He says he used the doorknob to get in because like McGillicutty, his father was also a wrestler. He says that since the universe voted him 7th, they don’t deserve to hear him talk.
Lucky Cannon’s topic is “deodorant.” He says deodorant is something people with bad odor need, but deodorant has no function without the smelly individual. Lucky says he’s like the deodorant and the WWE is like the smelly individual, he needs the WWE and the WWE needs him.
Alex Riley’s topic is “pigeon.” Riley says Kaval got the subject of “chicken.” He says he’s the rooster in the hen house and he’s here with 6 pigeons.
Striker has the universe vote. Watson, Kaval and Lucky Cannon all get cheers. The other 4 all get booed. “Showtime” Percy Watson is declared the winner of the segment.

Tonight’s opening match is “Showtime” Percy Watson taking on Michael McGillicutty. Watson catches McGillicutty with a unique variation of a dropkick and locks in a grounded side headlock. McGillicutty fights out and catches Watson with a dropkick of his own. McGillicutty drops Watson with a snapmare and covers for 2. He locks in a reverse chin lock on Watson. Watson fights back and dodges a clothesline, but McGillicutty turns around and drops Watson with a clothesline to the back. He nails Watson with a backbreaker for 2. McGillicutty goes back to the reverse chin lock. Watson fights back and nails McGillicutty with a pair of dropkicks. McGillicutty comes back with a sunset flip and picks up the 3 count.

Move of the Match: I have to give this to McGillicutty’s clothesline to the back. It was an impressive and rarely seen move.

The replay highlights of last weeks keg carry. They follow up with a video of the Pro’s talking about Titus O’Neil and the reasons behind his elimination.

The Miz vs. Kaval is next. Kaval hits Miz with some big kicks. Miz fights back, but Kaval backs him into the corner. Miz comes out of the corner with a big boot and goes after Kaval’s head. He hits a grounded big boot and chokes Kaval on the ropes. Miz continues the attack on Kaval and chokes him in the corner. Miz hits his running clothesline into the corner and covers for 2. Miz locks Kaval in a camel clutch chin lock, but Kaval fights out. Miz goes for a back suplex, but Kaval flips out and drops Miz with a cross body for a 2 count. Miz comes back and throws Kaval out of the ring. Back from break, Miz is still in control of Kaval. Kaval fights back. He gets a sunset flip and follows up with a double foot stomp. Kaval hits a series of forearms and kicks. He hits the Tidal Krush in the corner and covers for 2. Kaval goes up top, but Miz knocks him down on the ropes. Kaval fights Miz off, but Miz sweeps his legs to hang him up on the top rope. Miz grabs Kaval and hits the Skull Crushing Finale for the 3 count.

Move of the Match: The Skull Crushing Finale is impressive, but I’m going to give this to the Tidal Krush because I enjoy watching that move.

They play a promo talking about Eli Cottonwood. They play videos showing what happened on RAW between Cena and the Nexus and run down the current Money in the Bank card. They follow this up with a promo for Husky Harris which includes the Pro’s commenting on him having a lot of potential.

Husky Harris and Cody Rhodes vs. Mark Henry and Lucky Cannon is up next. Lucky Cannon and Husky Harris start out. Lucky gets control early with a fireman’s carry takedown. He gets an arm lcok and tags in Mark Henry. Husky escapes and tags in Rhodes. Henry overpowers Rhodes. He drops him with a military press slam. Henry goes to sit on Rhodes, but Rhodes moves. Husky is tagged in and he and Rhodes double team Henry. They trade tags so they can continue the double team legally. Husky hits a 3 point stance clothesline on Henry in the corner. Husky turns his back on Henry and when he turns back around, Henry drops him with a huge clothesline. Husky tags in Rhodes and Henry tags in Lucky. Lucky takes down Rhodes, but Rhodes fights out of the corner. Lucky fights back with a back body drop and gets a 2 count, but Husky breaks it up. Henry hits a running attack on Husky and headbutts Rhodes. Lucky goes after Rhodes, but Rhodes recovers from the headbutt and turns the attack around into the Cross Rhodes. Rhodes covers for 3 to pick up the win.

Move of the Match: There were a handful of good moves, but I have to give this to the Cross Rhodes.
