NXT 6/29/10

NXT opens with the announcement that one of the NXT Rookies will be eliminated tonight. It is then revealed that one of the Rookies will have immunity. To earn immunity, the Rookie must win the Keg Carry Challenge. Michael McGillicutty is first. He starts out, but drops the keg and is disqualified. McGillicutty says he was with Husky Harris the other night and the keg is at least twice as heavy as the kegs they had then. Lucky Cannon is up next. Lucky completes the carry in 12.7 seconds. Percy Watson makes it in 13 seconds and therefore doesn’t beat Lucky’s time. Eli Cottonwood starts out slow and only gets 13.3 seconds. Kaval goes forward. He says that the keg weighs as much as him and he’s not going to pose any risk to his body unless it’s in the ring. Titus O’Neil comes out. He trips as he starts and he drops the keg and flips over it. O’Neil says this is why you don’t drink and drive. Husky Harris is next. Harris drops the keg halfway through and it looks like he may have tweaked his leg on the run. Striker asks Harris if he got hurt. Harris tells Striker to back off. Alex Riley is last. He completes in 13.8 seconds and that means that Lucky Cannon has secured immunity. Lucky says that what he lacks in size and speed, he makes up for in heart.

They play a profile of “Showtime” Percy Watson. He talks about what he has done and says he is a superior athlete to the other rookies.

Husky Harris is taking on MVP in tonight’s first match. MVP and Harris have some grappling action and MVP gets control. Harris keeps shooting MVP off and each time they collide, but Husky doesn’t go down. MVP rolls up Husky for a quick 1 count. MVP gets a double leg takedown and a jackknife cover for another 1 count. MVP gets another takedown on Harris and Harris backs off to regroup. MVP backs Harris into the corner. Harris hits a forearm to MVP. MVP and Harris trade blows. MVP floats over in the corner and nails Harris with the Player’s Boot. Harris rolls out of the ring. Back from break, MVP is still in control of Harris. MVP has a chin lock on Harris. Harris fights out, but MVP sends him into the corner. Harris avoids the attack in the corner and hits a side slam on MVP. Harris covers for 2. He covers multiple times trying to get MVP to stay down, but never gets more than 2. Harris locks in a leg scissors on MVP. MVP fights out, but Harris hits a series of punches to MVP. He drops a pair of elbows on MVP. Harris hits a running splash, but MVP kicks out at 2. Harris hits a snap suplex and gets another 2 count. MVP starts to fight back, but Harris nails him with a punch and hits a scoop slam. Harris hits another scoop slam for a 1 count. Harris hits MVP with a short arm clothesline for a 2 count. MVP avoids the running senton from Harris. MVP catches Harris with a clothesline and a back elbow. He hits his knee facebuster and follows up with the Ballin’ Elbow. MVP catches Harris with the Play of the Day for the 3 count and the win.

Move of the Match: MVP’s Play of the Day is nice, but I honestly have to give this to Husky’s running splash because it was an impressive move.

Up next is Kaval, Lucky Cannon and Michael McGillicutty vs. Eli Cottonwood, Titus O’Neil and Alex Riley. McGillicutty starts out with Cottonwood and tries to take him down. Cottonwood overpowers McGillicutty. Cottonwood tags in O’Neil and McGillicutty tags in Lucky. Lucky works on O’Neil’s arm. The referee is distracted by Eli Cottonwood and Alex Riley takes a cheap shot at Lucky from the outside. O’Neil takes advantage to nail Lucky with a clothesline. O’Neil tags in Riley. Riley hits a series of shots to Lucky. Riley sends Lucky into the corner and knocks McGillicutty off the apron. Riley tags in Cottonwood. Cottonwood tosses Lucky and chokes him on the ropes. Titus O’Neil tags back in and hits a scoop slam. Riley tags back in and hits a snapmare. Riley locks in a reverse chin lock on Lucky. Lucky starts to fight back, but Riley nails him with a knee to the midsection. Lucky fights out of the corner with a back elbow, but Riley nails him with a kick. Riley tries to pull Lucky away from his corner, but Lucky rolls through and sends Riley into the turnbuckle. Lucky tags in Kaval. Kaval hits a pair of running strikes to Riley and follows up with a couple of kicks. Kaval hits the Tidal Krush and covers, but O’Neil and Cottonwood break it up and toss Kaval out of the ring. McGillicutty slides into the ring and nails Riley with his swinging neckbreaker. McGillicutty sends Cottonwood out over the ropes and goes out after him. Cannon takes O’Neil down with a dropkick and they both roll out of the ring. Kaval goes up top and hits the Warrior’s Way Footstomp for the 3 count and the win.

Move of the Match: This has to go to the Warrior’s Way. It is an impressive diving move and looks vicious.

They replay the Nexus’ attack on the WWE Legends from RAW and play a promo for Money in the Bank.
