NXT 6/15/10

NXT opens with the Rookies and Pros both coming out to the ring. Striker asks MVP to explain the Pros actions from last week. MVP says the Rookies have a right to be angry to some extent, but there’s not going to be a confrontation tonight. MVP says last week was an initiation. He says there was an underlying message and they paid for the transgressions of the Season 1 Rookies. MVP says the Pros will work hard to teach the Rookies, but they have to work hard to learn. He asks if they can move forward and let bygones be bygones. MVP asks if they’re cool. Percy Watson says that he and MVP are cool and the other Rookies appear to be cool with their Pros too. Striker has Kaval and Alex Riley step forward and he tells them tonight they will face each other.

Alex Riley vs. Kaval is tonight’s opening match. Before the match, LayCool has a video highlighting Kaval played. In the video he talks about having wrestled in Japan and having held titles over there. Alex Riley overpowers Kaval early. Kaval comes back with kicks. Kaval takes Riley down with a big kick and covers for 1. Riley overpowers Kaval again and takes some shots in the corner. Riley shoots Kaval off and Kaval goes to float over in the corner. Riley catches Kaval, but Kaval fights back and hits a mule kick to Riley. Kaval hits a running kick and covers for 2. Kaval hits a snapmare and locks in a figure four necklock. Riley fights out, but Kaval continues the attack with the kicks. Riley finally fights back by hanging Kaval up with a flapjack onto the ropes. Back from break and Riley is still in control. Kaval fights out of an arm lock, but Riley catches him and hits a back suplex dropped into a side slam for a 2 count. Riley locks in a chin lock, but Kaval fights out. Kaval hits a sunset flip and then hits a double stomp to Riley’s chest. Kaval brings the kicks again, but Riley again overpowers him. Kaval hits more kicks and goes after Riley in the corner. Riley sends Kaval to the apron. Kaval locks in the Bite of the Dragon (rope hung dragon sleeper). He breaks the hold at 4 and follows with a kick off the top for a 2 count. Kaval hits a big kick to Riley and goes up top. Kaval goes for the Warrior’s Way foot stomp, but Riley rolls out of the way. Riley picks up Kaval and hits a big TKO for the 3 count.

Move of the Match: Kaval had some great moves in this match, but I’m going to have to give this to the TKO.

After the match, Riley tells Striker that Miz is out partying. Riley says Miz asked him to join, but he said he wanted to take care of things in NXT. LayCool says Kaval did a good job and with their guidance he will be “Flawless!” Morrison says Miz isn’t partying; he’s at a lipo consult. Morrison says he thinks they both made an impression. Ryder says he only cares about his rookie, Titus O’Neil, but the new ring announcer is pretty hot and tells her to call him.

They play a promo for Eli Cottonwood. He calls his in ring style dominating and dark and says he likes to punish people. He says what he’s afraid off is himself because he doesn’t always know what he’ll do.

We see video from earlier in the day with Zack Ryder talking to Titus O’Neil. Ryder says he understands having a temper and he respects O’Neil and O’Neil needs to learn to respect everybody.

They play another promo, this time for Husky Harris. Harris says that growing up he always said he would be in the WWE. He identifies his grandfather, BlackJack Mulligan and his father, IRS. Harris says he’s spent his life living in a big shadow and he’s ready to step out.

Kofi Kingston and Michael McGillicutty taking on Mark Henry and Lucky Cannon is next. Kofi and Mark Henry are going to start, but Henry wants McGillicutty and McGillicutty is willing to go in. Henry shoves McGillicutty off. He gets shot off and runs into a shoulder block. Henry hits a military press drop and tags in Lucky. Lucky hits a scoop slam and covers for 1. McGillicutty catches Lucky with a hip toss and follows up with a pair of arm drags. He works on the arm and tags in Kofi. Kofi continues the work on the arm, but Lucky turns it around on him. Kofi takes him down and hits a splash for a 1 count. McGillicutty is tagged back in and takes down Lucky with a shoulder block for another 1 count. McGillicutty goes back to the arm of Lucky. McGillicutty hits a dropkick to Lucky and Lucky rolls out of the ring. Kofi comes in and they knock Henry off the apron with a double dropkick. Back from break, McGillicutty is once again in control of Lucky in the ring. He is still working on the arm. Lucky catches McGillicutty with a big boot and gets a 2 count. He goes to a side headlock on McGillicutty. Henry is tagged in and he headbutts McGillicutty. Henry misses a splash in the corner and McGillicutty goes after him, but Henry overpowers him again and tags Lucky back in. McGillicutty gets out of the side headlock, but gets caught with a shoulder block. Lucky hits a second shoulder block and covers for 1. He hits another and gets another 1 count. Lucky goes back to the side headlock. Lucky misses a springboard crossbody and McGillicutty hits a vicious spinning neckbreaker for the 3 count.

Move of the Match: I have to give this to the spinning neckbreaker, that move was powerful and devastating.

After the match, Kofi says McGillicutty took a step in the right direction. Mark Henry says he thinks Lucky has a lot of potential. Cody Rhodes says Lucky just lost. He says the guys who win matches make more money than the losers. Rhodes says Lucky is all style and no substance. Henry has a microphone and he challenges Rhodes to a match on behalf of Lucky. Rhodes says he’ll face Lucky next week. Striker asks what we can expect from Rhodes in the match. Rhodes pushes Striker off the stage. MVP confronts Rhodes and Rhodes leaves. MVP, Henry, Kofi, Lucky and McGillicutty all go to check on Striker. McCool gets water for Striker while Henry and Lucky go after Rhodes. Striker holds his head and takes the water as NXT goes off the air.
